Mercenary
Efter omfattende lineupændringer er et genfødt MERCENARY tilbage med deres sjette album “Metamorphosis”. Deres metalliske lyd er blevet tungere, hurtigere og mere hårdtslående, samtidig med at lydbilledet kendetegnes af den karakteristiske blanding af aggressiv og melodisk vokal samt fængende omkvæd. MERCENARY vil i 2011 rejse sig fra asken og bevise sin genfundne relevans som et unikt og moderne metalband over for metalscenen, presse og fans.
Det sidste årti har MERCENARY været et af de mest aktive danske metalbands. En usædvanlig kombination af melodi og aggression; af genremæssige udtryk og vokaltyper, samt atmosfæriske keyboardflader, tunge riffs, iørefaldende omkvæd og ekvilibristiske guitarsoloer har givet bandet et unikt og let genkendeligt udtryk. Bandet har ud over utallige danske klubshows bl.a. headlinet den danske Headbangers Ball Tour i 2008, vundet en Danish Metal Award for årets album, optrådt på Roskilde Festival; turneret med bl.a. de amerikanske metallegender Megadeth o.m.a., samt optrådt på en lang række udenlandske festivaler.
I efteråret 2009 skilte bandet dog veje med deres trommeslager, den ene sanger samt keyboardspiller, da der ikke længere var nogen fælles vision for bandets musikalske fremtid. Det stod klart, at bandets sangskrivere, guitaristerne Jakob Mølbjerg & Martin Buus, sammen med bassist og sanger René Pedersen ville udvikle musikken i mere eksperimenterende, tungere og moderne retning. Som følge af bruddet har René Pedersen overtaget rollen som forsanger, og bandets line-up fuldendes nu af trommeslager Morten Løwe. I 2010 underskrev den danske metalkvartet kontrakt med søsterselskaberne NoiseArt Records og bookingagenturet Rock the Nation. Det nyopstartede selskab NoiseArt udgiver MERCENARYs sjette plade “Metamorphosis” d. 25. februar i hele verden.
MERCENARY’s guitarist Jakob Mølbjerg udtaler om den nye plade: “Efter en lang periode præget af store forandringer og hårdt slid kan vi endelig udgive vores sjette plade ”Metamorphosis” gennem NoiseArt Records. De er en del af vores nye familie, som også omfatter vores nye bookingagentur Rock the Nation. Vi ser enormt meget frem til det fremtidige samarbejde med begge, da vi mener, at et selskab, der både håndterer pladeudgivelse og booking, er særdeles velegnet til at konfrontere de vanskelige kår, som musikbranchen i dag er underlagt Vi ser utroligt meget frem til at præsentere den nye plade for gamle såvel som nye fans, samt at vise at MERCENARY er tilbage for fuld kraft!”
”Metamorphosis” er indspillet med Jacob Hansen i hans studie i Ribe. Tematisk omhandler René Pedersens tekster ikke bare bandets egen musikalske og identitetsmæssige metamorfose, men også emner som personlige kriser og tvivl, samt valgets ansvar og den styrke, der skal til for at konfrontere og overvinde eksistentielle problemer.
